Children & Young People's Project

The aims of the project are to continue to build on current activities to address disaffection, engagement of parents and to take in to account issues around emotional well being especially for children and young people. This will be improving current activities and ensure that a "step change" will be evidenced by the end of year one in attitudes and behaviour as a result of additional interventions.

We have a variety of Children and Young People's projects including the Children's Fund that has been running this project for over 8 years achieving targets of attendance and attainment of young people in schools around Rotherham; namely Clifton Community Arts, St Ann's Junior and Infants and East Deane Primary. Within two of the schools we run a reading club within their already established breakfast clubs, this increases attendance.

We run an environment project in our very own allotments. Our primary focus is for children and young people to learn how to grow crops from seeds, taking care of the crop and harvesting the produce and increasing awareness of the environment and energy-conserving ideas. We developed a plan for the young people to come up with advertising and try and sell their produce, obtaining knowledge of how a business runs and to see how much profit they can achieve.

Through this project there is also a programme to involve parents in the training programme so that they can be supported with a structured training programme and parents evenings to understand the education system better and feel more confident.
